'Add to Calendar' button not working on Chrome

Overview

When using the Chrome browser, you navigate to an event page and click on the 'Add to Calendar' button but no file is downloaded. The issue does not happen when using other web browsers.

When opening the Developer tools, you see the following error under the 'Console' tab:

'Mixed Content: The site at <URL> was loaded over a secure connection, but the file at <Event URL> was redirected through an insecure connection. This file should be served over HTTPS. This download has been blocked. See https://blog.chromium.org/2020/02/protecting-users-from-insecure.html for more details'

Solution

This problem is related to changes in Chrome security settings that prevent insecure downloads from being processed and has been fixed in Bonzai version 2.2.15. For more information about this release and how to update your version to it, please refer to the Bonzai 2.2.15 Release Notes.

As a workaround, you can also change the insecure content setting in Chrome (at your own risk):

  1. At the site master page, click on the lock symbol on the left-hand side of the address bar ('View site information')
  2. Select "Site settings" and scroll down to "Insecure Content"
  3. Change the setting from "Block" (The default setting) to "Allow"
  4. Refresh the page and try to 'Add to Calendar' once more, which should now be allowed to proceed
Choose files or drag and drop files
