My Sites showing error: Failed to retrieve items!

Overview

The My Sites section is not pulling content and showing an error: Failed to retrieve items!

When this happens, the browser Console may also indicate the following:

BONZAI ERROR: The attempted operation is prohibited because it exceeds the list view threshold.

Solution

1. Check if the 'Favourite Sites' list shows more than 5000 items
   Information: An item is added to this column each time a user adds a favourite.
   
2. Remove items from the column so it shows 5000 or lesser items
   
3. Open the List Settings
   
4. Scroll down
   
5. Under the 'Columns' section, click 'Indexed Columns'
   
6. Click 'Create a new index'
   
7. Add "Favourite Site User" as an indexed column to bypass the threshold limit in Sharepoint. This allows the Web Parts to work even when exceeding 5000 list items.
   

Testing

1. Click 'Add More' under 'My Sites' and add more Favourites
   
2. The 'My Sites' section should load without the error
